***This Event Is Postponed to JUNE 5!
Policies about how to solve the statewide housing crisis have centered around one big topic the past couple years: Upzoning. Last year, the major bill to change building heights around transit across the state, SB827, faced challenges over the impact it would have in vulnerable communities, particularly communities of color across the state that are already facing gentrification pressures.
Now, lawmakers have returned with SB50, a supposedly revised bill that claims to have taken into consideration concerns of justice and equity.
At this panel discussion, we will take a critical look at this bill and the ideology behind it, what impacts it will have in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area, and whether it truly will live up to its new promises.
(This is intended for a mixed audience of both people who are aware of housing policy and those who are newer to the topic. We’ll have four panelists and a moderator.)
